ARRI ALEXA 35 Production Set (19mm Studio)
The ARRI ALEXA 35 digital cinema camera features a new 4K Super 35 sensor measuring 27.99 x 19.22 mm in size with a maximum frame rate of 120 fps and internal motorized FSND filters (Clear, ND 0.6, ND 1.2, ND 1.8). The camera records MXF/ARRIRAW or MXF/Apple ProRes (422 HQ, 4444 or 4444 XQ) onto one in-camera Codex Compact Drive 1TB or 2TB.

In addition, the ALEXA 35 features 2x built-in wireless radios with separate external antennas allow interference-free transmission of WiFi and ARRI Electronic Control System (ECS) white radio signals. Exposure is controlled through an electronic rolling shutter (5.0 - 356 degrees).
The ALEXA 35 Production Set (19mm Studio) is a camera and support system package that has been designed to suit the workflow of a traditional camera department. This set contains an ALEXA 35 camera with LPL Mount (LBUS), PL-to-LPL Adapter, MVF-2 viewfinder, Camera Control Monitor CCM-1, three Compact Drives, Power Distribution Module PDM-1 and an ALEXA 35 Cine License (ARRIRAW and Open-Gate-width recording formats).
Both lightweight 15 mm and studio 19 mm rod standards are supported on the improved CBP-5 bridge plate and shoulder pad. New accessories such as the fullsize Center Camera Handle CCH-5 and extendable Viewfinder Mounting Bracket VMB-5 offer rock-solid support and rapid reconfiguration possibilities on set.
More dynamic range, contrast, and sensitivity
ALEXA 35 measures at 17 stops of dynamic range (exposure latitude), far morethan any other digital cinema camera. Having 1.5 stops more in the highlightsand one stop more in the shadows than previous ALEXA cameras, whileretaining the naturalistic film-like highlight roll-off, will be game-changing forfilmmakers. Sophisticated stray-light suppression in the camera and lens mountsensures that the full contrast range and character of each lens are captured bythe sensor.
Together, the increased dynamic range and stray light control make iteasier to handle any lighting conditions on set, increase flexibility in post, andprovide the best source for HDR (High Dynamic Range) projects. With low noise and sensitivity settings ranging from EI 160 to EI 6400, ALEXA 35is a “High ISO” camera. An optional Enhanced Sensitivity Mode can be applied tosettings between EI 2560 and EI 6400, producing an even cleaner image in lowlight.
This exceptional sensitivity, combined with the wider dynamic range andstray-light suppression, allows ALEXA 35 to capture the most delicate nuances oflight and shadow in more situations than ever before.
New ARRI REVEAL Colour Science
ARRI’s discussions with filmmakers and careful review of the image pipelinehave led to significant improvements in image quality and a faster, easierworkflow. REVEAL Colour Science is the collective name for a suite of new imageprocessing steps used by ALEXA 35 internally and also available through leadingthird-party postproduction tools for ARRIRAW processing.
It includes animproved debayering algorithm for cleaner compositing, a new colour engine formore accurate colour reproduction, a new wide gamut colour space for fastergrading, new LogC4 encoding to contain the increased dynamic range, and newLogC4 LUTs (Look Up Tables) for improved colour fidelity. While bringing out the best of the ALEXA 35’s new sensor, REVEAL ColourScience is also backwards compatible.
ARRIRAW footage captured by ALEXALF and Mini LF cameras can be processed with REVEAL Colour Science, gainingmany of its advantages. This means that the ALEXA 35 and ARRI’s large-formatcameras can be combined on set and can also share LogC4 LUTs in post.
New Super 35 4K sensor with native 4:3 anamorphic support and ARRI Textures
With its Super 35 4:3 native 4K sensor, ALEXA 35 can be used with a vast globalinventory of existing lenses—modern and vintage, anamorphic and spherical,Super 35 and large format. Filmmakers wanting to shoot with ARRI cameraswhile having to fulfill 4K mandates now have an immeasurably broader lenschoice.
ARRI Textures is a unique new feature that allows cinematographers tofundamentally alter the way in which the camera records images, should theywish to.
Up until now, ALEXA cameras have been pre-programmed with a defaulttexture that determines the amount and character of grain in the image, and theamount of contrast at different levels of detail, perceived by the viewer assharpness. For the first time, ALEXA 35 provides the option to choose from amenu of ARRI Textures, much like selecting a film stock.
Easy operation and new accessory range
ALEXA 35 is the smallest fully-featured ARRI production camera ever, packingthe features and processing power of a “larger” ALEXA into a Mini-sized body.Crews will be intuitively familiar with the camera’s simple menu structure; supportfor 1TB and 2TB Codex Compact Drives; and MVF-2 viewfinder, now with HDR.Fast and easy operation is assured through a new left-side display, Advanced Colour Match, pre-recording capability, and a slew of usability improvements suchas additional user buttons.
A total of 19 recording formats, incorporating efficientin-camera down-sampling and anamorphic de-squeezing, allow productions tooptimize data rate, resolution, and other parameters, based on their individualneeds.
Mixed reality and virtual productions will benefit from the camera’s abilityto record lens metadata in all common standards and output real-time streamingmetadata to ARRI’s Live Link Metadata Plug-in for Unreal Engine.ARRI has crafted a new line of bespoke ALEXA 35 accessories that expand thecamera’s capabilities and ensure maximum speed and versatility on set.
Closely integrated electronic accessories offer additional power outputs or extendedaudio features. A complete new set of mechanical support items provides flexibleoptions for any shooting situation, scaling quickly and easily from a small andlightweight setup to a full-blown production configuration.
ALEXA 35 is supported by ARRI’s full suite of online tools, as well as free-of-charge standalone apps like the iPhone/iPad Camera Companion App, ARRIReference Tool, and ARRIRAW HDE Transcoder. Temperature resistant, splash and dust-proof, and conceived with futurehardware and software updates in mind, ALEXA 35 delivers robust and reliableservice on set, a long product cycle, and a safe return on investment.
