Blackmagic Design Micro Studio Camera 4K G2
Launched at IBC 2023, the new Blackmagic Design Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 supports incredible UHD 4K images in a micro studio camera format designed for live productions and studio work.
The Micro Studio Camear 4K G2 has been updated to feature the same image sensor found in Blackmagic's Studio Camera 4K Plus G2, which supports 3840 x 2160/50 and 60p. The camera is equipped with an active MFT mount that can accept native MFT lenses or be adapted to a wide range of other modern and vintage lenses.
In addition, this tiny, but very capable box camera outputs 10-bit 4:2:2 video via 12G-SDI and can be remotely controlled from an ATEM switcher using SDI control protocol. The camera packs many professional studio features into a compact form factor, including a built-in color corrector, program return, talkback, tally indicator.
For Live Productions and Studios
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 is the perfect solution for placing cameras on set when you don't have space for regular sized cameras. It includes the popular MFT lens mount, very low light 4K image sensor and cinematic color science. So it's small, but has the features of a full sized studio camera! You also get 12G-SDI for HD and 4K operation up to 2160p50 and 60p.
It's also possible to control the built in color corrector and lens using the SDI and HDMI connections. It can even record Blackmagic RAW to USB disks. Plus Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 goes well beyond broadcast quality with log gamma, allowing you to create cinematic color corrected looks, all in camera.Â
Excells in Low-Light
In advanced cameras, ISO is a measurement of the image sensor's sensitivity to light. This means the higher the ISO the more gain can be added so it's possible to shoot in natural light, or even at night.
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera features gain from -12dB (100 ISO) up to +36dB (25,600 ISO) so it's optimized to reduce grain and noise in images, while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. The primary native ISO is 400, which is ideal for use under studio lighting. Then the secondary high base ISO of 3200 is perfect when shooting in dimly lit environments.
The gain can be set from the camera HDMI menu, or remotely from a switcher using the SDI/HDMI remote camera control.
Versatile MFT Lens MountÂ
With the popular MFT lens mount, Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera is compatible with a wide range of affordable photographic lenses from Olympus, Panasonic, Sigma, and more. Photographic lenses are incredible quality because they're designed for use in high resolution photography.
Plus, the active lens mount lets you adjust the lens remotely. It lets you adjust cameras mounted high up in hard to reach areas without needing to physically access them. Plus, the optional focus and zoom demands let you adjust the lens just like a large studio camera. This means you can set important lens settings such as focus, zoom, and iris just like you can with an expensive B4 broadcast lens.
Built-in Tally Light
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K features a tally light that illuminates red for on air, green for preview, and orange for ISO recording. This makes it easy for talent to present with confidence as they know at a glance which camera is on air. You get full support for the SDI and HDMI tally protocol from switchers such as ATEM Television Studio, ATEM Constellation, and ATEM Mini.
This means that a director can cut between cameras and the tally information will be sent back to the cameras, lighting up the tally light on the camera whenever it's on air.Â
Professional Broadcast Connectivity
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 has 12G-SDI that supports video, tally, and camera return which makes setup fast. It includes a full size HDMI connector for local video monitoring so you can attach a monitor such as a Blackmagic Video Assist to change settings through the menu overlay or check the position of a remote camera.
You also get a USB-C expansion port for recording to external disks or controlling the camera via zoom and focus demands. You can even connect a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to control the camera over a network via REST APIs. Plus, there's a 3.5mm port for connecting a microphone.
Records onto USB-C External Disks or Ethernet
Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K features a high speed USB-C expansion port that lets you record to external disks, control the camera via a network or connect a wide range of accessories. Plug in an external USB disk and the camera can record high quality 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files for later editing and color correction. This means you can just move the disk to a computer to work and you don't need to waste time copying files. Or add a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to control your camera over a network via easy to use REST APIs. Plus plug in optional focus and zoom demands to allow full lens control, just like a large studio camera.
