Welcome to the latest issue of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.
This week we are featuring the highly anticipated Firmware version 2 for the Sony VENICE camera, a Panasonic competition and free EVA1 Guide e-Book by Barry Green plus new firmware updates for Sony FS7 and FS7 II cameras.
Sony VENICE 2.0
The highly anticipated Firmware version 2 for the Sony VENICE is now available for download a month ahead of schedule. Firmware update 2.0 enabled the E-mount hidden away underneath the camera’s native PL mount; enabling cinematographers to use a wide variety of E mount lenses. In addition, the VENICE gets a dual base ISO of 500 and 2500 to give you substantially less noise in low-light environments while preserving the cameras impressive dynamic range. Other new features include various aspect ratio modes in 6K, such as 17 by 9 and 1.85 to 1 as well as 4K 6 by 5 Anamorphic mode.
New Sony FS7 and FS7 II camcorder firmware
Sony also recently released new firmware updates for the FS7 and FS7 II cameras. Firmware 4.30 for the FS7 and Firmware version 1.20 for the FS7 II allow users to lower the ISO when shooting in Cine EI mode. Up until now shooting in CineEI mode was restricted to the native ISO of 2000, however the latest firmware allows users to select lower ISO values and improve noise performance. However, it is worth to note that this feature comes at the expense of a small loss in DR.
Panasonic EVA1 user guide and competition
Panasonic EVA1 users can now download the free EVA1 Guide e-Book by Barry Green. Much like his numerous prior guides for other Panasonic cameras of recent past, Barry Green’s 200+ page EVA1 Guide is highly informative and easy to follow, giving new EVA1 owners everything they need to know about getting the best out of their camera. Panasonic are also inviting EVA1 shooters to enter their Share Your Vision Contest, where you can win 5000 Euros for your 5 minutes or less fiction or non-fiction video shot on the EVA1.
