You may recall that a few months ago, Sony released the highly anticipated Firmware 8.0 for their Sony PMW-F5 and Sony PMW-F55 cameras. However, it is worth nothing that unlike conventional previous firmware updates this firmware is serial numbers specific meaning that certain F5 and F55 cameras within a serial number range cannot perform the upgrade.
Sony continues its commitment to the CineAlta camera range by announcing a new, faster 4K Raw recorder - AXS-R7 for the F55/F5 cameras. The new raw recorder is capable of 4K RAW Recording at 120 frames per second as well as Cache Raw Recording, which documentary and wildlife productions will love. There are also new AXS media cards for the new recorder, and Sony also announced details for the next Firmware Version 8.0 for the F5/F55 cameras.
Ever since they were announced more than three years ago, the PMW F5 and F55 CineAlta cameras have gone from strength to strength. Sony have been adding new features and functionality throughout the years via firmware updates and earlier today Sony shared the details of their latest update. The new firmware version 7.0 will be released in January 2016 and add on BT.Rec 2020 support for F5/F55 and simultaneous MPEG2 HD 422 recording in HD while recording 4K XAVC in SxS Pro+ cards internally.
Sony recently released the latest firmware update version 5.0 for the PMW F5/F55 cameras further unlocking the potential of these amazing cameras. The new firmware update opens the path to internal 4K recording on the F5 (sold separately), the much awaited and desirable, Apple ProRes and Avid DnxHD recording (requires a board install), as well as some exciting accessories for broadcast work.
