Sony recently released a new firmware update for their latest Super 35 XDCAM 4K camera - the PXW-FS5. The baby brother to the FS7 has been extremely popular with small production companies and freelancers doing a variety of work including, but not limited to events, weddings, documentaries and corporate gigs, but there have been reports from various users about some compression artifacts when shooting in Slog3 in high ISO's. Luckily Sony just issued a firmware update version 1.11 which addresses those issues.
Version 1.1 allows simultaneous QFHD internal recording and QFHD output to an external unit that serves as the monitoring device. A new menu item (“QFHD REC OUTPUT”) in the recording menu permits switching between simultaneous QFHD internal/external recording, with loss of VF and LCD operation and internal recording.
