Sony recently released a new firmware update for their latest Super 35 XDCAM 4K camera - the PXW-FS5. The baby brother to the FS7 has been extremely popular with small production companies and freelancers doing a variety of work including, but not limited to events, weddings, documentaries and corporate gigs, but there have been reports from various users about some compression artifacts when shooting in Slog3 in high ISO's.
Luckily, Sony just issued a
firmware update version 1.11 which addresses those issues. It is worth to note that the macro-blocking issues were relating to UHD internal recording only in the XAVC-L codec, and 1080p internal recording wasn't affected, which is a reason why some users have not experienced these issues.
Sony FS5 firmware 1.11 Details:
“Image quality improvement regarding XAVC recording”.
Over here at Visual Impact we are big fans of the compact form factor an images out of the FS5 and with this update the camera goes from strength to strength.
