Sony F55 is about to get a massive upgrade enabling it to shoot 4K RAW at 120 FPS with optional future accessory. The details of all this are slim at this stage, but we have a feeling that we'll all know everything about the upgrade sooner, rather than later.
Just a few days ago, on the Sony Pro Community discussion board a mysterious post and banner with the
"4K RAW at 120fps" appeared to be posted by one of Sony USA's top managers - Peter Crithary. See it below.
Now this upgrade will probably have to do something with the AXS-R5 16bit RAW recorder, but that's just an educated guess on my part, since the only way that both the F5 and F55 can record Raw is via the AXS-R5 4K Raw recorder. Whether this upgrade will require a board to be installed or an additional accessory to be bolted on the back - is yet to be known.
One thing worth nothing here, is that this upgrade looks like will be available (at least initially) strictly to Sony F55 owners only. The F55 tops out at 4K/60 at this stage and by having 120fps in its highest resolution will surely put a smile on every DP's face as it will open up the arsenal of tools to express their creativity even further.
We'll keep you updated as to when the details are released. To get your Sony F5 or F55 give us a bell at
