Sony just announced their latest addition to the NXCAM lineup - the HXR-NX100. The new camera features a compact handheld form factor, a 1.0 inch EXMOR R CMOS sensor, comparable in size to Super 16mm film, therefore getting reasonable shallow depth of field should be a breeze, 12x optical and 24x Clear Image Zoom and a plethora of in camera recording options including AVCHD, XAVC-S and DV. NX100 NXCAM Sony NX100_rear_06-EM The NX100 features a 12x optical zoom lens with three independent rings for autonomous focus, iris and zoom control - usually a feature present only on higher-end models. This flexibility combined with the much larger 1.0 inch chip compared to 3 x 1/3 chips for example will give event shooters and wedding videographers much better images in low-light situations and full manual control over their images. The new Sony NX100 can record on 2 x SDHC/SDXC slots for dual or relay recording and resolutions and frame rates supported are up to full HD 1920 x 1080p/60 for fluid slow motion when conformed to a 30p timeline. The new XAVC-S codec is also supported at 50Mb/s 8bit 420 chroma subsampling for extracting the maximum image quality for much less disk space. This codec is also present on the popular Sony A7s mirrorless camera as well as the compact RX100 Mark III. Users already familiar with AVCHD can also benefit from recording in the familiar format.
