Welcome to the latest issue of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.
This week we are featuring the new MKE and HSP Essential Omni microphones from Sennheiser, updates to Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve colour grading and editing software and Netflix's announcement that the Sony Venice is now Netflix certified for original Netflix commissioned programming.
New Sennheiser MKE and HSP Essential Omni microphones
Sennheiser announced new MKE and HSP Essential Omni microphones. Both new mics are powered by Sennheiser’s KE capsule, which generates a warm, distortion-free sound and is resistant to humidity. The MKE and HSP Essential line is a great choice for productions with budgets, that do not want to compromise on sound quality. The new MKE Essential Omni mic is also the perfect addition to the latest evolution G4 series and AVX wireless systems, and is available in either beige or black colour in either 3-pin or 3.5mm locking connector.
DaVinci Resolve updates
Blackmagic Design has released a few updates to their DaVinci Resolve colour grading and editing software. Now in Public Beta version 6, Resolve 15 allows for editing audio automation data on the Fairlight page, as well as simultaneously monitoring HDR and SDR among other updates. Those of you using the current live version 14 of the software can also update to version 14.3.1 for improved scope performance when using Blackmagic Design playback devices and improved 4:2:2 output via HDMI.
Sony VENICE Netflix approved
Sony Venice is now Netflix certified for original Netflix commissioned programming, which is great news for cinematographers considering the VENICE for their next project. Netflix also added camera specific production guides to their approved camera list to help cinematographers chose the Netflix preferred capture settings such as formats, resolutions, in addition to high speed and Log gamma settings for each camera on their list. As a reminder, we are running a free live webinar with cinematographer Alister Chapman, who will share his experience on shooting with the Sony VENICE.
