Panasonic officially unveiled their latest addition to the Varicam family - the lightweight and compact Varicam LT 4K Super 35 camera. The new camera is a departure from the modular design of its predecessor, however it does share the Varicam DNA and a lot of the features of the 35 as well as bringing some of its own to the table. Even though the two cameras share the same 4K Super 35 MOS sensor and the dual-native ISO of 800/5000 allowing the cameras to produce relatively noise-free images in low-light situations the main differences are in the recording options and form factor. 02_VaricamLT_SlantPL VARICAM 35 vs. VARICAM LT SPECS/FEATURES

The new Varicam LT uses a new OLED viewfinder, which is an optional accessory. The good news for those on a budget is that it used a standard 3G-SDI connection, so a wide variety of 3rd party EVFs from companies such as Alphatron, Zacuto and others as well as monitors should work just fine. The body of the Varicam LT represents roughly a 50% reduction in weight and 2/3rd of the length of the original Varicam 35 as you can see on the image below> The Varicam LT body only weighs in at just 2.7kg making it easier for DoP's to shoot handheld or use the camera on stabilisers and cranes/jibs.
