In this post, we will briefly recap on the most exciting and innovative products - our top picks from 2017. It was a year for incredible ground breaking products, from the release of Panasonic's EVA1 to Sony's CineAlta 6K Full Frame VENICE. Not only was it an exciting year for camera releases but also for camera lenses and support systems.
At 2017's Cine Gear Expo, Panasonic unveiled the
AU-EVA1 - an EF mount 5.7K Super35 CMOS sensor with Dual-Native ISO camera. The EVA1 is both compact and lightweight with a removable top handle, making it gimbal stabiliser friendly.
“For cinema-style acquisition, we realised there was a space between the GH5 and the VariCam LT,” said EMEA Marketing Manager Nela Pertl. “With its compact size and new 5.7K sensor, the EVA1 fills that gap for a variety of filmmaking applications.”
“On the VariCams, dual native ISO has allowed cinematographers to use less light on set, saving time and money, as well as allowing for a great variety of artistic choices. The EVA1 will include dual native ISO, but the camera is currently being tested to determine final ISO specifications,” added Nela Pertl.

Last but not least, ARRI Skypanel LED technology raised the bar in high end drama lighting with the S60, s120, and most recently the giant S360 Skypanel, which we had a chance to see back at IBC 2017.
The new ARRI SkyPanel is an exceptionally versatile LED soft light - compact, fully tuneable and delivering light of unsurpassed power and quality. Because different application areas call for different lighting needs, SkyPanel has been designed as a series of fixtures. The mid-range S60, the smaller and more portable S30, the long aperture S120, and the new S360 fills out the family with the largest aperture and a brightness four times that of the S60.
