Welcome to the latest issue of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring Sony's new 4K HDR Trimaster broadcast monitors introduced at BSC Expo 2020, the new SmallHD 2403 HB, which they call the “World's Brightest 24-inch Production Monitor” plus Cooke's new lens addition to their Full Frame Anamorphic range - the new Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame 85mm Macro.

New Sony 4K HDR Trimaster broadcast monitors

At BSC Expo 2020 Sony introduced a new range of 4K HDR Trimaster broadcast monitors. The new Sony 4K/HDR High grade picture monitors range debuts with two new models the 18 inch Sony PVM X1800 and the 24-inch PVM X2400. Both monitors support 4K and 2K signals and feature Sony’s exclusive TRIMASTER technology for accurate colour reproduction. Both monitors offer 1000 nits brightness and are 100% colour matched to the Sony BVM-HX310 master monitor. In addition, both PVM X series monitors offer 12G SDI connectivity and 3D LUT support.

SmallHD 2403 High Bright

And speaking of production monitors, SmallHD has announced the new SmallHD 2403 HB, which they call the “World's Brightest 24-inch Production Monitor”. Featuring a rugged aluminium housing that makes it 25% lighter than the previous model, the SmallHD 2403 HB also comes with 1600nits brightness and 3G SDI connectivity alongside a full set of professional monitoring tools and an intuitive user interface. The monitor is priced around 3000 USD and is due to ship in the Spring.

Cooke Anamorphic/i FF 85mm Macro

At BSC Expo, Cooke also unveiled their new lens addition to their Full Frame Anamorphic range. The new Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame 85mm Macro also supports Cooke i/ technology for lens metadata. With a 1.8x squeeze factor, the Cooke Anamorphic i/ Full Frame range provides a pleasing and organic anamorphic look while shooting in the 2.4:1 aspect ratio, while preserving the characteristics of the famous Cooke look, a favourite among many DoPs.
