Welcome to the latest issue of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring Sony's new 4K shoulder camera for broadcast ENG work - the Sony PXW-Z750, the new Lumix S1H full-frame mirrorless camera from Panasonic plus breaking news from BVE Expo and Media Production Show.

Sony PXW-Z750

Sony has a new 4K shoulder camera for broadcast ENG work. The Sony PXW-Z750 features a brand new 3-chip 2/3-inch CMOS sensor design with a global shutter, which is a first for Sony in their CMOS based 2/3-inch broadcast cameras. The PXW-Z750 can record 4K UHD at up to 60 frames per second and 120fps in Full HD making it perfect for sports and wildlife productions. The camera is equipped with the industry standard B4 ENG mount and can accommodate both 4K and HD lenses. Designed for the latest HDR broadcast workflow, the Z750 supports Slog3 and HLG and can also record 4K in a highly efficient 10bit XAVC Long GOP codec.

Lumix S1H mirrorless camera

Panasonic has officially announced their flagship Lumix S1H full-frame mirrorless camera at a special launch event in Los Angeles. The S1H is capable of recording 6K at 24p in full-frame, as well as a healthy choice of 5.9K at 30, 4K 60p and a variety of slow motion options. The latest generation of Panasonic’s in-body-image-stabilization will make it easy to do handheld work, while the full V-Log V Gamut colour profile from the EVA1 and Varicam will make it easier to match the S1H to just about any other camera on the market. The Panasonic S1H can also output 10bit 4K via HDMI and the dual native ISO will make it a breeze to get noise-free images in low-light situations. Shipments are expected to commence towards the end of September.

Media Production Show

And since we are in Trade Show season with IBC 2019 on the horizon we have some trade show related news. Everyone thought there was too many trade shows and it was always a headache as to which one to visit/exhibit at. Well, it’s now got a lot easier as news just broke last week that BVE Expo has closed doors and the Media Production Show has bought the assets! This development could have major implications for the UK media industry including dealers, creative professionals and manufacturers.
