Welcome to the latest issue of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

2018 was a busy year for our industry with plenty of new cameras, lenses and exciting accessories being launched. In this blog we are covering our top 5 product releases for the last twelve months in chronological order.

ARRI Alexa LF & Signature Primes

At BCS Expo in February, ARRI made a major announcement by introducing the full-frame ALEXA LF and the new Signature Prime lenses designed to cover the larger sensor. Designed to satisfy the 4K requirements for high-end streaming drama commissioned by Netflix and other platforms, the ALEXA LF astonishes with incredible dynamic range, and life-like colour rendition giving DPs a larger canvas to expand their creativity.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K

At NAB 2018 in April, Blackmagic Design surprised everyone by announcing the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. Now in a larger body packing impressive features such as 4K/60p recording in Raw or ProRes and a newly improved 5 inch touch screen. The Pocket Camera 4K has proven to be a huge hit among indie filmmakers and content creators not only because of its accessible price, but also for the flexible recording options including SD and external SSDs via USB.

Teradek Bolt LT

Also at NAB 2018, Teradek announced the Bolt LT a more budget-friendly wireless video transmission to the new Bolt XT, which was also announced at the show. The Bolt LT wireless transmitters have been designed for camera operators using HDMI cameras or compact Super 35 camcorders. The Bolt LT can transmit to either a maximum of 500 or 1000 feet depending on the model and are also compatible with the existing Bolt 500, 1000, Sidekick II or SmallHD 703 Bolt.

Zeiss Supreme Primes

Designed to get the best out of the current crop of full-frame cine cameras such as the Sony VENICE and ALEXA LF, the Zeiss Supremes were announced at CineGear in May. The Zeiss Supreme primes offer impeccable image quality, sharpness and detail rendition while keeping a relatively compact form factor compared to the Zeiss Master Primes. Most of the range offers a very fast maximum aperture of T1.5 making them suitable for a variety of shooting situations.

Dionic XT

Anton Bauer announced their new Dionic XT range of batteries at CineGear available in both V-mount as well as Gold mount. The Dionic XT batteries can also be charged with third party battery chargers, which is a huge plus for those using different brands on jobs. The Dionic XT are available in 99Wh or 156Wh capacities and also feature a D-tap and USB ports on the side.
