This week we covering the new Hollywood blockbuster "The Creator" shot on the Sony FX3 and 75mm Kowa anamorphic lens, the Wooden Camera Accessory Plates Collection, and the latest updates for DaVinci Resolve and other products from Blackmagic Design.
The Sony FX3 paired with beloved anamorphic lens were recently used to shoot a major Hollywood sci-fi blockbuster. Directed by Gareth Edwards, who is no stranger to creating epic visuals and guerrilla style filmmaking, "The Creator" utilised a basket of low-budget filmmakers favourite gear including the Atomos Ninja and a DJI Ronin RS2 stabiliser paired with a custom handheld rig, which the director operated himself. According to a recent interview with the film's cinematographer, the majority of the film was also shot on a 75mm Kowa anamorphic lens, which has been regaining popularity again evoking the unmistakable visual flare of timeless classics such Alien and Blade Runner. ProRes RAW was also utilised as the main codec and proved itself robust enough for extensive CGI work and even for IMAX exhibition.
Wooden Camera has a new Accessory Plate Collection designed to make it easy for camera assistants to add a wide range of accessories such as wireless transmitters, receivers, or lens motors to the camera rigs they are building. The types of plates include Cheese plates or hook-and-loop all of which are available in a variety of sizes including 5x5, 3x5, 2x5 and 2x2 inches to fit just about any accessory you need to fit onto your camera. Low-profile mini accessory rails are also available in a few sizes including 100mm, 60mm, and 40mm. Other plates include the Bolt-on Accessory plates for time code boxes available in a couple of sizes for 1/4-20 or 3/8th mounting points, as well as a Universal Accessory Hinge with a convenient tilt mechanism for easier access to menus or buttons.
