This week we are featuring the announcement of the FX30 from Sony - their latest compact super 35 addition to the Cinema Line, SmallHD's new 5-inch touchscreen monitors with the Smart 5 Series and Blackmagic Design's 4 new Ultimatte 12 models.
Sony has just announced a new addition to their Cinema Line. The new Sony FX30 is an entry-level cinema camera building on the success of the FX3, while sharing the same functionality and body design. The new camera features a brand new APS-C sized 20 megapixel 4K sensor capable of producing cinematic images with 14 stops dynamic range. Much like the FX3, the new FX30 benefits from a more video-centric camere body and button layout design in addition to being capable of recording 10bit 4K up to 120 frames per second. The Slog3 and S-Cinetone support ensures easier matching to other cameras from the Cinema Line including the FX9 and VENICE, while the dual native ISO of 800 and 2500 gives cinematographers plenty of creative options no matter the environment. The new FX30 also supports external RAW recording via HDMI to recorders such as the Atomos Ninja V and V+, while the 5-axis in body stabilization makes it easier to get stable footage even without a gimbal.
SmallHD has announced a trio of new 5-inch touchscreen monitors dubbed the Smart 5 Series. The fully-featured, rugged, but compact monitors have been designed for working professionals looking for a smaller footprint monitor that doesn't skimp on professional features. The top of the range Ultra 5 features a full set of front-facing physical buttons, a daylight-viewable 3000 nits brightness, SDI and HDMI connectivity in addition to an ethernet port for ARRI and Sony Venice camera control. The Cine 5 on the other hand has a side-mounted joystick and a back button in addition to a 2000nits bright touchscreen, 3G-SDI, HDMI and a 5-pin locking USB for RED Camera Control. And last, but not least, the Indie 5 has a more streamlined and lightweight build paired with a touchscreen only interface and a 1000nits bright monitor.
Blackmagic Design has announced 4 new Ultimatte 12 models allowing broadcasters and studios to create photorealistic virtual sets at a more affordable price. The new models include an entry-level HDMI based HD Mini model, which has a special feature that converts SDI camera control to HDMI. This allows an ATEM SDI switcher to control a HDMI connected Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. The other three new models include the Ultimate 12 HD, 4K and even 8K with 12G-SDI support. Designed for the next generation of broadcast graphics, the new Ultimate 12 models feature new algorithms for improved edge handling, greater colour separation, incredible colour fidelity and better spill suppression compared to previous models. In addition, all new models now include the free Ultimatte Software Control app for Mac and Windows.
