Welcome to the latest episode of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring the latest news from the IBC show in Amsterdam including Sigma's announcement of two new cine lenses within their High Speed Prime & Classic Prime ranges, Sony FX9 firmware version 4.0 and Teradek's industry 1st 6GHz zero-delay professional wireless video solution.

SIGMA FF High Speed Prime 65mm T1.5 & 65mm T2.5 Classic

At IBC this year, esteemed cine lens maker Sigma announced the development of two new cine lenses. The new 65mm T1.5 High Speed Prime and the new 65mm T2.5 Classic Prime expand their respective lens range to a total of 11 primes ranging from 14mm to 135mm. Thus giving cinematographers even more creative options when filming with the latest large format cine cameras such as the VENICE 2 and ALEXA Mini LF. The 65mm Classic Prime has been designed to provide a more classic and vintage look to the image, paired with pleasing flaring, while still preserving the high resolution that Sigma cine lenses are known for. The Classic lens will be available only in PL mount, while the 65mm High Speed version will also adopt an EF and E mount options.

FX9 Firmware v4.0

Sony has announced a new firmware update for their FX9 camera. The upcoming Firmware version 4.0 is due to be released in October and will expand the cameras ability to receive a LUT from the cloud without the need for an SD card. And while this update may not seem like a huge deal, the ability for camera operators to utilize the power of the C3 Portal cloud interface and import a LUT from the cloud offers significant benefits to synchronize the look of multiple camera units for example filming a project at different locations. In addition, firmware v4.0 will also add automatic uploads of high-res files and other workflow improvements such as the ability to switch the audio level meter from channels 1 and 2 to channels 3 and 4 among others.

Teradek Bolt 6

Teradek has introduced the Bolt 6 Series, the industry’s 1st 6GHz zero-delay professional wireless video solution. Available in a variety of configurations and versions such as the Bolt 6 LT and the Bolt 6 XT, with plenty of connectivity to suit just about every level of production including HDMI and SDI, the new 6GHz compatible system offers uninterrupted wireless video in challenging, high-traffic environments, while at the same time ensuring compatibility with the Bolt 4K family of transmitters and receivers. This way the Bolt 6 devices can pair with any Bolt 4K unit and operate in the 5GHz range. Although not yet universally adopted, the 6GHz spectrum is quickly becoming a necessity due to the increasing congestion in the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz space, while offering twice as many operating frequencies and 12 new channels.
