Welcome to the latest episode of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring the latest firmware release for the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast camera, RED's new flagship camera - the V-Raptor XL and Tilita's new Pocket Follow Focus.

Blackmagic URSA Camera Update 7.9.2

Blackmagic Design has released a new firmware update for the latest generation URSA Broadcast camera. The latest Camera Update 7.9.2 brings improvements to live streaming and also improves tethering with iPhone 12 models. In addition, the latest update also provides improvements with live streaming platforms as well as support for the recording of camera motion sensor data to Blackmagic RAW clips. URSA Broadcast G2 users will also benefit from improved behaviour of the ISO, shutter and white balance switches and the added compatibility improvements for Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter.

RED V-Raptor XL

The latest RED Tech Live episode introduced the new RED flagship camera - the V-Raptor XL. Unlike previous modular camera designs, the 8K Vista Vision beast is an all-in-one system designed for film productions. The camera comes with a shimmable PL mount, which is also compatible with lens metadata for Zeiss and Cooke cine primes, and a vast array of I/O including plenty of SDI outputs, audio, timecode, and accessory ports. The camera also features a high-quality built-in Electronic ND filter system free of colour shift between stages, while the Q&A section of the live stream offered useful insights as to the new Autofocus system in the camera and much more.

Tilta Pocket Follow Focus

Tilta has been known for making some extremely versatile and affordable camera accessories, and their latest Pocket Follow Focus is no different. Building on the success of their Mini Follow Focus, the new Pocket Follow Focus retains its compact and lightweight footprint thanks to a new composite material, which is said to improve the overall mechanics of the unit. The 0.8 pitch gear makes the unit compatible with most cine lenses, while the new QR hard stop system allows the camera operator to set a range for focus pulls. The fluid damping system makes for a more ergonomic feel, while the magnetic focus ring and 360 degree rotation support allow for greater flexibility on set.
