Welcome to the latest episode of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring Blackmagic's new Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Gen 2, their latest beta updates to DaVinci Resolve and Laowa's new Nanomorph 1.5x Silver anamorphic lens.

Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2

Blackmagic Design has just added a new camera to their cinema camera lineup. While it may look familiar, the new Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Gen 2 offers an incredible value for money enabling cinematographers to capture stunning 6K in Blackmagic RAW and benefit from the latest Gen 5 colour science. Although it shares the same DNA as the 6K Pro version, the new Pocket 6K Gen 2 camera loses the built-in ND filters, but keeps the same 6K sensor, 13 stops dynamic range, dual native ISO, and two XLR inputs. This way users looking for a more affordable Pocket Cinema Camera now have access to 90% of the features the 6K Pro version has. The new Gen 2 Pocket Cinema camera is also compatible with the optional Pro EVF, and features an adjustable LCD screen for better viewing angles.

DaVinci Resolve 18 Beta 5

And speaking of Blackmagic Design, the company also released a new update for DaVinci Resolve 18. The latest Beta 5 update adds support for the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Gen 2 as well as the ability to stabilize Pocket Cinema Camera clips using AI and camera gyroscope metadata. Furthermore, this update brings an improved trim editor interaction with tools on the cut page, in addition to better audio playback of nested timelines and reduced latency when making audio level adjustments. The latest Beta 5 update also brings improvements to the Fusion page, which is now more stable when working with Resolve FX surface tracker and a new progress bar for online uploads. blackmagic Design DaVinci 17

Laowa Nanomorph Silver Flare

Affordable cine lens maker Laowa has introduced a new Silver flare version of their Nanomorph 1.5x anamorphic lens. The blue streaks and flares are some of the most common characteristics of anamorphic lenses, however this is not always ideal for most filming situations. This is why the new Silver version of the Laowa Nanomorph has a more subtle and neutral flare that can change color based on the light source. The Nanomorph Silver edition will be available in three focal lengths - 27mm T2.8, a 35mm T2.4, and a 50mm T2.4 all in a variety of interchangeable lens mounts including PL, Canon EF, Sony E and others. Shipping is estimated to commence later this Summer.
