This week we are featuring CinCraft Mapper from ZEISS - A new lens data service for efficient VFX workflows, Bright Tangerine's new KASBAH Shoulder Support System and the new anamorphic 50mm T2.9 lens from budget cine-lens maker Great Joy.
ZEISS CinCraft Mapper
ZEISS has introduced a new digital service for more efficient VFX workflows called Zeiss CinCraft Mapper. This is the first application to launch as part of the new CinCraft ecosystem, CinCraft Mapper provides frame-accurate lens distortion and shading data to VFX artists in a quick and easy way. Lens type, focusing distance, and aperture data are essential for a faster and more accurate compositing of complicated VFX shots such as action sequences and car chases, which required accurate lens data for more realistic results. The service is fully compatible with both the latest Zeiss eXtended Data technology, and it also provides access to use additional and historic lens family shading and distortion data. The service also delivers industry standard maps for this data, which can be imported directly into VFX software such as Nuke, Flame and 3D Equalizer.
Bright Tangerine KASBAH
Esteemed camera accessories maker Bright Tangerine has announced their all new KASBAH Shoulder Support System for digital cine cameras. A unique blend of high-tech foam design paired with precision design and ergonomic functionality, the new Kasbah shoulder support system aims to reinvent the traditional camera rig. Bright Tangerine partnered up with a Silicon Valley tech company to develop a new shoulder pad and hand grips based on Digital Light Synthesis, a complex manufacturing process that creates a unique matrix structure with an infinite number of density zones for maximum comfort during long shoot days. In addition this new support system provides plenty of adjustability and expansion options for battery plates and other accessories, giving camera operators more freedom to use different camera and lens combos as well as easily switch between tripod and handheld setups.
Great Joy Anamorphic
The budget anamorphic lens market has seen impressive growth over the past year and the newly announced Great Joy 50mm 1.8x anamorphic lens solidifies this trend. Pitched as a cost effective anamorphic solution for full-frame cameras the lens covers a 33 by 24mm image circle giving cinematographers a wide choice of cameras to use it on including those with 4:3 or 16x9 sensor modes. Anamorphic lenses are usually on the heavy side, however the new Great Joy 50mm T2.9 is surprisingly lightweight at just over 2.2 pounds, making it ideal for gimbal stabilizers and steadicam use. The lens also produces a lovely and organic image full of traditional anamorphic characteristics such as flares and oval bokeh and features industry standard 0.8 pitch gear rings for aperture and focus. They will be available in various lens mounts including Sony E, Canon EF, and PL and scheduled to ship in batches over the Summer.
