Welcome to the latest episode of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring new wide angle, full-frame cine primes from IRIX, Top Crane's announcement of the Ghost One - the first 20-foot universal remote arm for high-speed action filmmaking and ARRI's latest demo footage of their Signature Zooms shot by DoP Klaus Naumann.

New IRIX cine primes

Budget cine lens maker IRIX has introduced a new wide angle cine prime for full-frame cameras. The new 21mm T1.5 is the perfect companion lens to the already available Irix 15mm, 30mm and 45mm lenses. Characterised by a sharp, but pleasing image, the lens design features an 11-blade aperture for smooth background blur as well as near zero distortion and extremely low focus breathing. In addition to its compact footprint and full-frame coverage, the new 21mm Irix lens is also weather sealed making it perfect for filming in the elements. The lens is scheduled to ship sometime in early February and will be available in various lens mounts including PL, Canon EF, Sony, and Canon RF among others.

Top Crane Ghost One

Top Crane has announced the Ghost One - the first 20-foot universal remote arm for high-speed action filmmaking. With a max payload of 80 lbs, the Ghost One is compatible with a huge range of professional camera stabilisation systems such as the ARRI Trinity, ShootOver G1, and Ronin 2 allowing action cinematographers to use almost any digital cinema camera. The Ghost One is also the only universal remote arm to feature the Phantom Stabilization algorithm, which works together with the hinged tail, which flexes independently of its boom for added stability. Machined and assembled in the US, the Ghost One features an innovative and durable design, which incorporates steel, carbon fibre and Kevlar elements to enable filmmakers to capture a huge variety of shots in fast-paced action scenes regardless of the environment, be it rain, dust, or snow.

ARRI Signature Zooms

ARRI has released some excellent footage shot by DoP Klaus Naumann using the ARRI Signature Zooms paired with the ALEXA Mini LF. The stunning footage was captured using the 16-32mm, 24-75mm, 45-135mm and the 65-300mm ARRI Signature Zoom. The dedicated 1.7x extender was also used for some shots providing that extra needed reach required for some of his compositions. Naumann was impressed with the outstanding colour, sharpness, and skin tone rendition of the Signature Zooms, all of which are especially important in fashion and commercial work. He also noted in particular the fantastic life-like reproduction of colours and textures the lenses were able to achieve.
