This week we are featuring the latest SUP 7.0 firmware from ARRI for their ALEXA Mini LF camera, the new DaVinci Resolve 17.2 update from Blackmagic Design plus a new line of SuperSlim 2mm IRND filters from Formatt.
ARRI ALEXA Mini LF SUP 7.0
ARRI has just released the production version of their latest firmware update for the ALEXA MINI LF. Up until just days ago, the latest Alexa Mini LF SUP 7.0 firmware was only available as a beta version, however now you can install SUP 7.0 and safely use your Alexa on a shoot. The long anticipated update brings popular Super 35 recording formats from the original Alexa Mini to the Mini LF. New Super35 formats include 3.4K and 2.8K anamorphic options as well as a 4.3K LF 16x9 option. Other new improvements in SUP 7.0 include better Magnification monitoring and support for the Signature Zoom 1.7x extender.
Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 17.2
Blackmagic Design has just released a new update to DaVinci Resolve. Major improvements in the latest DaVinci Resolve 17.2 update include a significantly improved start-up time and support for ACES colour science 1.2. In addition, the live autosave feature is now on by default, and those working with 8K H.265 files on the latest M1 powered Macs should see a significant improvement to decoding performance. Other improvements in Resolve 17.2 include better color management for the latest Blackmagic RAW Gen 5 color science and support for gyroscopic metadata on Sony Venice clips.
Formatt Firecrest Ultra Cine Superslim
Formatt has just announced a new line of SuperSlim 2mm IRND filters for cine cameras. The more budget-friendly Firecrest Ultra Cine Superslim will be available in the standard Panavision 4 x 5.65 size in 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.8 and 2.1 ND filter strengths. These high quality glass filters have been designed for steadicam, gimbal stabilizer and drone work on compact cine camera setups. In addition, Formatt is also working on a dedicated 2mm filter tray for ARRI standard matte boxes, and the filters will be compatible with a range of Bright Tangerine and Wooden Camera matte boxes.
