At the start of the CP+ photo exhibition in Japan earlier this morning, SIGMA announced four new lenses including the world’s first f/1.8, ultra-wide 14mm prime, The new Sigma 14mm f1.8 covers full-frame sensors and is designed for high resolution cameras making it ideal for architecture, astrophotography, documentary and landscapes. Other Sigma lenses announced at the show include the 135mm F1.8 DG HSM Art telephoto prime, the 24-70mm F2.8 DG HSM OS Art fast, constant-aperture zoom workhorse, and last the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG HSM OS Contemporary lightweight and compact super zoom with image stabilisation. Sigma 14mm f1.8 Art lens The new Sigma 14mm f/1.8 super wide angle lens comes under Sigma's award-winning Art range, and as such incorporates the same groundbreaking aspherical element as Sigma’s critically acclaimed 12-24mm f/4.0 Art lens. With outstanding image quality and sharpness from center to edge, the 14mm f/1.8 Art features the largest glass mold (80mm) in the industry, offering photographers an ultra-wide prime with virtually no distortion, flare or ghosting. Three lens elements are made with FLD (“F” Low Dispersion) glass, which is equivalent to calcium fluorite in performance, and four SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements, which reduce chromatic aberration. The new Sigma lens has a minimum focus distance of 10.6 inches at 14mm, photographers can compose incredible close-up shots with expansive backgrounds. The all new Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art lens will be available upon release in  Canon EF, Nikon and Sigma mounts. For Sony E mount users, Sigma’s MC-11 Sony E-mount adapter will do the job for Sony A7sII, A7RII or any of the Sony camcorders with E-mount such as the FS7 and FS5. Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG HSM OS Art Another lens of particular interest to video users shooting with either Canon 5D Mark III's or Canon EOS Cinema cameras like the C100 Mark II or C300 Mark II would be the new Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG HSM OS Art. The new zoom features a newly designed Optical Image Stabilisation and highly efficient and fast AF system. We have a feeling this lens will be quite popular with documentary and even shooters. It features three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements and four aspherical elements to reduce chromatic aberration. The newly revamped Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG HSM OS Art lens will be available also in either Canon EF or Nikon mount in addition to Sigma mount. Sony camera users can use the Sigma MC-11 adapter and still benefit from this new lens. Sigma 135mm f1.8 Art On the telephoto side of things, Sigma also announced a new 135mm f1.8 Art lens, sporting incredible image quality from edge to edge. This lens is positioned as deal for events such as concerts, indoor sports, conferences and press events, the 1.8 F-stop delivers greater “shallow depth of field” and isolation of subjects. The outstanding compression effect makes it equally as powerful for up-close and full-length portraits. Its new large hyper sonic motor (HSM) provides ample torque to the focus group for optimal speed while the acceleration sensor detects the position of the lens for compensation focus groups for factors including gravity, producing faster and more responsive AF. Equipped with a focus limiter, the 135mm F1.8 Art can be easily optimised for a variety of distances and situations. Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG HSM OS Contemporary The fourth lens announced is a 100-400mm F5-6.3 Contemporary telephoto zoom, which also features Sigma’s unique macro function (1:3.8 ratio) for perfecting close-ups and distance shots, and push/pull focal zooming for ease of use. The all-new Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG HSM OS Contemporary lens supports Canon, Nikon and Sigma mounts and works with Sigma’s MC-11 Sony E-mount converter. Pricing on these lenses has not yet been announced, however we expect them to be quite competitively priced.
