Sony expands its media lineup with the introduction of two new Sony G Series SSDs. Due to a growing need for more efficient, stable and flexible hi-bitrate recording, these G Series Professional Solid State Drives were designed to meet this particular reason. The Sony G Series SSDs are available in 960GB (SV-GS96) and 480GB (SV-GS48) capacities with read and write speeds of up to
560MB/s and
530MB/s respectively.
Using Sony’s
Error Correction Code technology, the 960GB G Series SSD achieves up to 2400 TBW (terabytes written), while the 460GB drive can reach 1200 TBW. This resulting in less frequent replacement and increased ROI.
The Sony G Series SSDs also offer data protection technology, keeping content secure even if there's a sudden power failure. In addition, they feature a durable connector which withstands repeated insertion and removal up to 3000 times, adding to their stability.
Sony states that whilst other SSDs have a tendency for data write speeds to suddenly drop after repeated re-write cycles, Sony G Series SSDs feature built-in technology preventing sudden speed decreases, while ensuring stable recording of high bitrate 4K video without frame dropping.
For example, when used with an
ATOMOS Shogun Inferno, the G series SSD will be able to record video at 4K 60p (ProRes 422 HQ) mode stably.
The Sony G Series SSDs will deliver optimal performance for several professional video recording devices, while offering a far longer lifetime. These SSDs can be effortlessly removed from a recorder and connected to a computer for file downloading, when paired with the necessary connection cables. This in result makes editing easier and faster with read speeds up to 550MB/s.
Sony's new G Series Solid State Drives are expected to be available May 2017 at retail prices of $539 for SV-GS96 and $287 for SV-GS48. More information on available recordable media can be found at
