FreeFly Re-Invent the Gimbal Stabiliser with the FreeFly MoVI Pro
FreeFly reinvent the camera gimbal stabiliser once again with their latest FreeFly MoVI Pro gimbal. Back in 2013, FreeFly revolutionised the industry with the MoVI M10 gimbal stabiliser, and now the company has spent over a year re-designing their new MoVI Pro from the ground up after listening to customer feedback.
You may remember the Movi M10 stabiliser promo with Vincent Laforet back in 2013, which took the industry by storm and spawned a huge range of similar products from competitors. FreeFly are just one of those cutting-edge companies that took their UAV technology used in their unmanned aerial systems and was able to apply it to camera stabilisation on the ground - this was, and still is pretty revolutionary stuff.
The company has released the M5 and M15 MoVI models since then, however their latest MoVI PRO is a complete re-design of what a camera stabilisation gimbal should look and feel like according to FreeFly.
Here's a short piece directed by Ty Evans shot on the RED Epic with the new MoVI PRO (plus behind the scenes below):
The new MoVI Pro features an integrated ring, which has been improved for better ergonomics. The Movi Ring was available before as an extra accessory for the M10 and M15 gimbals, but now FreeFly have improved it further by integrating a little stand at the bottom, this way you can lay your gimbal on the ground in between shots. The new ring also allows operators to grip the gimbal anywhere for better positioning easier movement.
Cables are now tucked away almost entirely and a new hot-swappable dual battery system, with various outputs to power your camera and accessories such as a monitor. The two 25.2 volt MōVI Pro batteries provide power for the MōVI as well as the following accessory power ports:
Camera D-Tap Port
12-15V Adjustable, 6A Max Current
Spine D-Tap
12V, 2A
Tilt D-Tap
12V, 2A
Tilt USB
5V, 1A
The MoVI Pro supports camera/lens payloads up to 6.8 kgs/15 lbs. which plenty for most modern digital cinema camera setups. The new MOVI Pro also features a seamless integration with RED cameras including the RED EPIC, which you can control from afar via the MIMIC controller or the Movi Controller.
Pricing starts at $6500 US (no UK pricing announced yet) and the bundle will get you the new Ring Pro, MOVI Pro and the Mimic controller. For more information visit FreeFly.
