Welcome to the latest issue of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry.

This week we are featuring a configurable Cage System for the Sony FX9 from Movcam, ARRI PCA Vertical Format Adapter set for vertical 9:16 filming, plus the latest firmware version 6.00 for all MixPre Series audio recorders from Sound Devices.

Movcam Cage System for Sony-FX9

The Sony FX9 is now shipping and with the growing demand for it there is also a growing number of third party accessories manufacturers offering dedicated accessories for the FX9. Movcam has been making dedicated cages and accessories for Sony cameras such as the alpha 7 series and the FS7, and now the company has announced the availability of a Cage System for the Sony FX9.

The Movcam Cage System is configurable and includes a battery/distribution module, a shoulder baseplate compatible with the VCT-14 standard, and a Top/Side expansion module with various mounting points for accessories.

ARRI ALEXA Mini/Mini LF

The ALEXA Mini has been a huge hit for ARRI; their most compact camera to date has been the trusted camera of choice on countless major motion pictures and commercials, and with the growing demand for vertical video destined for social media, ARRI has released a new Tech Tip video demonstrating an easy way to rig the Alexa MINI or Alexa MINI LF for vertical 9:16 filming using the ARRI PCA Vertical Format Adapter set. This adapter set enables camera operators to switch quickly from a vertical to a normal horizontal style using ARRI dovetail plates.

Sound Devices MixPre firmware update

Pro audio maker Sound Devices has recently announced firmware version 6.00 for all MixPre Series audio recorders. Firmware version 6.00 introduces 32-bit float USB audio streaming to the MixPre-3, MixPre-6, and MixPre-10 Series II, making them the only USB audio interfaces currently on the market that allow high end 32-bit float recording and playback on Mac OS. Clipping vocals or instrument solos is no longer a concern with the MixPre-II recorders as the huge dynamic range gives content creators and audio professionals some serious flexibility for recovery in post, without loss of quality.
