North Carolina-based 26 Inch Productions recently took out the Panasonic Varicam LT for a spin and shot some truly mesmerising Infrared footage with the latest Panasonic 4K camera. Not many cameras can shoot IR natively, and this is because of the user removable IR cut filter, which in most conventional cameras cannot be removed; but with the Varicam LT you can do that. The Hidden Visible from 26 Inch Productions on Vimeo. The infrared capability of the Varicam LT opens you a huge range of creative possibilities for cinematographers. And in case you may be asking yourself - sure, but would I really want to use Infrared footage for a commercial project? And the answers is - yes! Check out this Audi commercial which aired a couple of years back, shot in Infrared by DP Bill Bennet, ASC. This Audi TV commercial was shot with a special modified version of the ARRI Alexa camera that is only sensitive to light in the infrared part of the spectrum, with wavelengths longer than 800 nanometers. However with the Varicam LT you don't need specialised equipment as the feature is built in because of the removable IR cut filter, saving you money and time on renting specialised equipment should an infrared project come about your way. We at Visual Impact are very proud to represent the Varicam LT and truly believe in the versatility and potential of this camera to give cinematographers and producers the opportunity the shoot just about any type of project whether it is a high-end TV drama, a feature film, commercial, music video or low-budget documentary.
