GoPro Shows Off Footage From Their Upcoming Quadcopter
UAV, or unmanned aerial vehicles/systems, or drones as they are often referred to have gone from a weekend hobby to a full-fledged multi-billion dollar consumer and professional business just in the span of a few short years.
Companies like DJI and more recently 3D Robotics have contributed to the popularisation of quadcopters and smaller aerial vehicles capable of capturing stunning aerial shots that just a few years ago would have been impossible to achieve unless you have a few thousand pounds to spare.
Earlier in 2015, GoPro, makers of the Hero4 and Hero Session action cameras, announced plans to release their own quadcopter in the first half of 2016. The featured video was captured with a developmental prototype of GoPro's quadcopter and stabilization system.
Not many details are known at this point, other than the fact that it will be GOPro's first foray into the pro-sumer drone world - a burgeoning market segment with some heavy competition from drone heavy-weights like DJI and 3DR. Of course, the benefit for GoPro is they have the world's most popular camera - the GoPro Hero4, and developing their own quadcopter for mass market makes a lot of sense, as right now their customers are going to DJI and other companies.
To be continued.
