This week we are featuring the news that Blackmagic Design has teamed up with Apple to release an external GPU which works as a high performance graphics accelerator for professional software such as DaVinci Resolve, 3D games and VR applications. Sony have just released new firmware updates for their popular handheld PXW-200, Z90, and NX80 camcorders while Apple have announced newly updated and refreshed MacBook Pros.
Blackmagic eGPU
Great news for all you Mac-based editors and DaVinci Resolve colourists out there as Blackmagic Design have teamed up with Apple to release an external GPU. The Blackmagic eGPU is designed to function as a high performance graphics accelerator for professional software such as DaVinci Resolve, 3D games and VR applications. It features a built-in AMD Radeon Pro 580 GPU with 8GB RAM, Thunderbolt 3, an HDMI output, as well as four USB 3.1 connections, all in an integrated and slick design. The Blackmagic eGPU is priced at £599 and is currently an Apple store exclusive.
New MacBook Pro 2018
In other Apple-related news, there are newly updated, refreshed MacBook Pros now with expanded 32GB RAM option and 8th gen Intel 6-core processors options including the Intel Core i9. You can also get up to 4TB of super-fast SSD storage, however do expect to pay a significant premium for the fully maxed out option. The new Mac Book Pros also get the Apple T2 chip for enhanced security and a third-generation quieter keyboard.
Sony PXW-X200, Z90, NX80 Firmware update
Sony just released new firmware updates for their popular handheld PXW-200, Z90, and NX80 camcorders. The PX200 gets the ability of high quality streaming up to 10mbps in network client mode, while the Z90 and NX80 get support for TLS 1.2 Ustream for improved connection as well as an improved Steady Shot image stabilization in high frame rate mode. In addition, Sony’s Content Browser Mobile version 3.1 now supports remote control for the PXW-Z280 camcorder.
