Drones have come a long way since they were introduced, but they have always had shortcomings. This new Mavic 2 series from DJI seeks to address some of these issues. You have a choice of two different models which have the same drone bodies but different camera systems (which can be swapped). The Mavic 2 Pro has a new Hasselblad camera with a one-inch CMOS sensor while the Mavic 2 Zoom features a camera with a 2x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. When you look at the new Mavic 2 series it looks very similar to the first Mavic. On closer inspection it is slightly larger but it still weighs less than two pounds and features new aerodynamic elements which gives a traffic flight time of 31 minutes and provides a smoother ride. The Mavic 2 is a lot quieter than the Mavic Pro too, as a result of the new propeller design. Both the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom also have a new feature called Hyperlight low-light mode. When activated it the cameras capture sharper detail and richer colours which is when you are shooting in low light conditions such as dusk and dawn. DJI Mavic 2 Pro The key feature of the Mavic 2 Pro is the new 1” sensor. It offers 14 stops of dynamic range, improved depth of field, and the ability to control the aperture. The Mavic 2 Pro camera also records video at 100 Mbps, compared to the original Mavic Pro’s 60 Mbps. As well as recording stunning images and a joy to fly it also picks up the award for the ‘most difficult to understand how it works’ feature the Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS). Basically the HNCS takes us back in time and helps to make the images produced from the digital camera look like they were shot using film cameras! A nice trick if you can do it and by the look of the footage they did ! Key Features:
  • Hasselblad 28mm F2.8 EQV camera with 1" CMOS sensor
  • 3-axis gimbal capable ensuring silky smooth footage
  • 20MP images and 4K at 30FPS
  • Omnidirectional sensors
  • 45mph top speed
  • Maximum battery life of 31 minutes
  • DJI OcuSync transmission system for maximum range of up to 5 miles (8 kilometers)
  • Intelligent Flight Modes including ActiveTrack 2.0, APAS, QuickShots
Mavic 2 Zoom The cheaper of the two cameras is the Mavic 2 Zoom which has a sensor similar 1/2.3-inch sensor to the original Mavic Pro. The difference being (as the name on the drone suggests) it has the addition of a 2x optical zoom (24-to 48-millimeters) and digital zoom (49- to 96-millimeters). Another nice is Dolly zoom. This produces shots reminiscent of Hitchcock’s Vertigo by altering the zoom while moving the camera in and out. This trick can cost a lot of time and money but with the Mavic 2 Zoom using the Quickshot option it takes about five seconds! DJI Mavic 2 Zoom Key Features:
  • 24-48mm 2x Optical Zoom
  • 12-megapixel 1/2.3" CMOS Sensor
  • 48MP Super Resolution Photo
  • 4x Lossless Zoom FHD Video
  • Omnidirectional Obstacle sensing
  • Up to 8km 1080p video transmission
  • Up to 31min Flight Time
  • Compatible with DJI Goggle Series
  • ActiveTrack 2.0
  • Dolly Zoom QuickShot mode
  • Hyperlapse
