Blackmagic’s long awaited Pocket Cinema camera 4K features a Four Thirds sensor; 4K/60p, dual native ISO, great low light performance as well as the ability to record directly to an external SSD drive. While not as pocket friendly as the original camera, the new model offers a high resolution 5-inch touch screen and improved battery life. This is the second pocket camera Blackmagic have launched and like its predecessor it is based around the Micro Four Thirds format. Which is good news for people who already have lenses from a past life using cameras such as the Panasonic Lumix GH5. The sensor has dual native ISO with a sensitivity range up to ISO25,600 delivering an impressive 13 stops of dynamic range. The camera captures 4K (4096 x 2160) images at rates up to 60 fps in a variety of codecs including CinemaDNG Raw/Raw 3:1/Raw 4:1, and various ProRes 422 options. Slow-motion rates up to 120 fps are available in cropped Full HD. External controls give quick access to essential functions, while the large 5 inch touchscreen makes it easy to frame shots, focus accurately and change camera settings. Features include built in SD/UHS-II or CFast 2.0 recorders for RAW or ProRes recoding as well as a USB-C expansion port for recording externally to disks, plus MFT lens mount, built-in microphones, XLR input, full sized HDMI, 3D LUT support, Bluetooth and more. The body is made from carbon fibre polycarbonate composite, which makes it strong and lightweight. The design itself will suit shooting independent films and documentaries, fashion shows, travel blogs, web videos, weddings, corporate video and sports.
