Blackmagic Updates the URSA with 12bit ProRes 444 at 60 fps in UltraHD and 80fps in 1080p HD
Blackmagic Design have been on a roll since June last summer, releasing a steady flow of updates for their camera line. After unleashing addition flavours of ProRes (422, LT, Proxy) for the original Cinema camera, the Pocket Cinema camera, and their 4K Production camera, last year and more recently the 3:1 compressed 4K raw for the URSA, now the Australian based post-produciton equipmented turned camera manufacturer is raising the bar once again and beefing up their URSA 4K camera with even more amazing features.
Camera Utility 2.0 adds 12bit ProRes 444 up to 60 frames per second in UHD (3840 x 2160p) to the URSA, in addition to 80fps in 1080p. With this latest update, the URSA becomes even more flexible and we can definitely see this camera getting more and more production and post-production friendly as 12bit ProRes 444 is a very popular VFX workflow codec for various productions, for which a RAW workflow is cost prohibitive due to budgetary and/or time restraints.
