Version 12.5 of Blackmagic Design’s grading and editing software suite DaVinci Resolve is now officially available for download. The software has been going through major updates and is finally out of beta testing. You can download the DaVinci Resolve 12.5 and Resolve 12.5 Studio directly from the
Blackmagic Design website.
What’s more, the software is included freely in the box if you purchase any
Blackmagic Design production 4K camera including the URSA Mini 4.6K, URSA Mini 4K or URSA 4K cameras. Current owners of Resolve can update at no cost, however, new users needing a license with full functionality are looking to pay around £685.
Resolve 12.5 is packed with a wide range of features and functionality, over 1,000 enhancements and 250 new features. Editors and colourists are introduced to a dozen new editing tool-sets, new colour features and new effects and trimming tools. DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Studio features now include multiple GPU support, 4K mastering, HDR grading, noise reduction, 3D multi-user tools and motion blue effects and more.
DaVinci Resolve 12.5 is available on Mac OS X and Windows platforms.
DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Features:
Grade from RAW files and unlimited grading:
There’s unlimited creative control over RAW images when using the new RAW palette in DaVinci Resolve 12. Achieve fine tune exposure, colour temperature, sharpness and more. With node based processing, each node can independently carry colour correction, power windows and effects.
Power Windows™:
Invented by DaVinci, the new Power Windows feature allows users to work on specific areas within an image. Simultaneously edit multiple control points in PowerCurve windows.
Real-time 3D stereoscopic grading and editing:
Match the grade on both eyes and bring everything into perfect alignment when working on a 3D stereoscopic project. Edit, grade and display 3D stereoscopic timelines in real time. Furthermore, you can begin with a 2D timeline then copy all the grades to the other eye ready for trimming.
Image stabiliser and 3D tracking:
DaVinci Resolve included the world’s most powerful 3D tracker for locking Power Windows™ to on screen objects with highly accurate perspective matching. Because tracking is automatic, you don’t have to waste time generating keyframes and use the tracker to stabilise images.
Keyframes and curve control points:
You can hover over a keyframe curve to see its curve name and settings. Real-time keyframe curves are also included for adjusting and scaling range values. Toggle on or off independent clip keyframes and curves.
Markers:
There’s more usability and flexibility when using markers in DaVinci Resolve 12.5. You can select, move and delete multiple viewer and timeline markers. You can also add and edit markers during source playback.
Enhanced transitions:
Transitions and composite models have been advanced to allow multiple built in real time transitions.
Multi-cam Editing:
Editors can now quickly cut programs while playing back multiple sources in real time. Synchronise camera angles based on timecode, in/out point or even automatically based on audio waveforms! DaVinci Resolve 12.5 now automatically places different clips shot with the same camera onto the same angle when creating multi-clips! User Resolve’s powerful trimming tools to trim clips, change audio tracks and switch to a different camera angle once done with your first cut.
Media:
Managing media in DaVinci Resolve has got a whole lot simpler. Everything can be managed and viewed in a single media page. If using custom spreadsheets or databases on set, users can easily import and export metadata directly from CSV saving time for work that would have been done in post-production. There’s also added ability to clone and backup files. Resolve works with more media file formats in real time than any other system and supports camera RAW.
Master to tape:
DaVinci Resolve can also be used with professional broadcast decks, like HDCAM-SR to record your finished media master to tape. The deck control feature makes quick and easy accurate frame play out to tape.
You can obtain more detailed information on new feature and how to download a free copy of Resolve 12.5 or buy Resolve 12.5 Studio (£685) from
