Welcome to the latest issue of our weekly roundup of news from the TV and film industry. This week we are featuring the ARRIRAW upgrade for the AMIRA camera, Canon’s two new versions of their very popular 70-200mm f4 and 70-200mm f2.8 full-frame zoom lenses and the new AW-UE150, a 4K 60p PTZ remote camera from Panasonic recently previewed at InfoComm. ARRI have announced an ARRIRAW upgrade for the AMIRA.
The latest SUP 5.3 updated includes support for 2.8K ARRIRAW up to 48 frames per second to CFast 2.0 cards, and very much like on the ALEXA MINI, this functionality does require a paid license. The Amira has been extremely popular with documentary and low budget dramas and commercials, mainly thanks to the incredible ALEXA sensor, dynamic range, and ProRes capture and now with ARRIRAW on-board, the AMIRA also becomes a very versatile 2nd camera to ALEXA cameras on jobs using ARIRAW as their primary acquisition format. New Canon 70-200mm series lenses
Canon also recently announced two new versions of their very popular 70-200mm f4 and 70-200mm f2.8 full-frame zoom lenses. The new 70-200mm f4 II gets an upgraded stabilization mode with shake compensation for up to five stops in addition to a re-designed zoom ring as well as a slightly shorter minimum focus distance. The new Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS III retains the overall optical and physical design while getting a new Air Sphere Coating or ASC, which has been designed to reduce flaring and ghosting artefacts. The 70-200mm f4 II is expected to ship in June, while the f2.8 mark II later in August.   Panasonic AW-UE150
Panasonic are expanding their impressive PTZ camera range with the new AW-UE150, which features a 1-inch CMOS sensor and supports high-quality 4K/UHD 60p video. Users can benefit from the 75 degree viewing angle, 20x optical zoom as well as versatile output options, including 12G-SDI, HDMI, optical fibre and IP. Thanks to the “i-zoom” feature, the 20x optical zoom is further expanded to maintain high resolution when capturing subjects far-away with perfect clarity.
