ARRI had a significant presence at IBC 2015 and as usual their booth was swamped by show attendees eager to get their hands on the ALEXA Mini, the powerhouse Alexa 65, and the next generation ALEXA SXT cameras they had at display at the ARRI booth. ALEXA Mini product manager Michael Jonas introduces the latest updates and features of the lightweight ARRI camera in the video below. Some of the updates for the ALEXA Mini are the new CForce lens control motors, which interface directly with the camera allowing for faster workflow. The WCU-4 wireless control unit is also the perfect combination for the ALEXA Mini as now 1st AC's can also change parameters such as frame rates for example in addition to control up to three motors for iris, focus and zoom. In addition, the new firmware update SUP 3.0, which will be released soon for both the AMIRA and ALEXA Mini will allow the MINI to record Timelapses and also unlock the multi-cam functionality of the camera. Alexa MINI CCM-1 Michalel Jonas also showed a prototype of the new CCM-1 control panel for the ALEXA Mini, which is basically the AMIRA/Alexa MINI MVF-1 viewfinder without the eye piece, and features all the user buttons and camera parameter buttons that you are familiar with from the MVF-1 viewfinder. The other major product at the ARRI booth was of course the next generation ARRI Alexa SXT camera, which brings 4K recording, improved electronics borrowed from the top end ALEXA 65 large format cinema camera, and the colour management and optional noise reduction featured in the docu-style AMIRA camera. Alexa SXT ARRIRAW 3.2K is also available as a recording format at a maximum of 120fps, which is the largest number of photosites on the sensor. In addition, a new live colour management system, BT.2020 colour space for monitoring, and 3D LUT support for on-set grading, all stored in the meta-data of the ARRIRAW files, making it easier for colourists to apply the look used in camera in post-production.
