The Panasonic Varicam 35 has been in the making for quite some time, however looking at the stunning 4K images out of the camera, it seems like time well spent. We're huge fans of the Varicam 35 and the HS as well, having placed a couple of Varicam 35's in our 24/7 Drama rental division for high-end TV drama productions, as well as being an official reseller for the Varicam 35/HS in the UK.
The original Varicam was quite a success, and we loved it, and the
Varicam 35 4K successor seems to not only do the Varicam legacy justice, but also elevate the game to a whole new level. In 2015, for high-end production a 4K master is mandatory in order to future-proof the content for upcoming 4K broadcast (whenever this happens), it's kind of like back in the days, shooting a feature film on celluloid, so it can be mastered and preserved for generations to come. Of course, only select few could do that back in those days, but today, Panasonic offers a truly flexible and all things considered well priced system that will not break the bank compared to other camera systems from the competition.
The fact that you can record proxies on Miro P2 cards at the same time as high-quality 4K content on P2 Express cards for incredibly fast post-production workflow pipeline, as well as the unheard of Dual ISO 800 & 5000 with virtually no noise is quite unprecedented. But don't just take our words for it, check out these behind the scenes clips from a recent production shot in 4K on the Varicam 35.
